All this information applies to a change in your principle residence. The principle residence is not optional. The principle residence is the residence which is predominantly used. If you are married and do not permanently live apart from your family, then your principle residence is in the residence that is predominantly used by your family. The same applies in the case of registered partners. Underage persons have their principle residence in the residence predominantly used by the person who has the main care and custody. If in doubt, your principle residence is regarded as the place in which you focus your relationship. Every other residence in Germany is described as a secondary residence.
